These are images that burned themselves into the minds and hearts of unwitting late 19th/early 20th century citizens, inciting unparalleled controversy all over Europe and beyond… and promise those same reactions in those who cross paths with them today. Decadence, dandyism, sex, and murder: more than mere posters, these are windows into the darkest corners of human compulsion.

In an event curated by Century Guild, a Chicago gallery known for museum quality Art Nouveau and Symbolist Art, La Luz de Jesus invites you to be a part of an unprecedented event that explores the taboos that have titillated and tormented since the turn of the century. Masterpieces of lithographed poster art from 1880-1940 illustrating subjects ranging from seminal S&M literature to STD warnings to serial killers will be shown, all of which shall be sure to incite reactions of lust, terror, anger, nausea, and inspiration. NOT TO BE MISSED!

Deastro

deastro

Deastro’s songs can’t sit still, much like their hyperactive creator. They leap from dream-pop to TV theme songs to whisper-soft to crazy robot-rock, and they always have Chabot’s tenor mixed in there somewhere.
Randolph Chabot Jr. began making electronic music in his parents basement in Michigan when he was barely thirteen years old. By the age of twenty-two years old he has self released more than three albums worth of songs, all recorded in his basement with the help of children’s toys and synthesizers. He draws his own cover art for his albums and his live shows are becoming legendary in Detroit.  His demos somehow found their way to eMusic.com and his compilation of his “greatest hits” soon became one of  the websites top sellers.

Boy In Static

Posted in MUSIC! on July 30, 2009 by itsamemario1706

boy in static Boy In Static is a duo currently based in San Fransico made of Kenji Ross (born 1980) and Alexander Chen (born 1981).

Chen, being the product of Taiwanese parents, got an early start in music while he was in elementary school by practicing viola, which somehow led to programming melodies on the family PC in junior high.

In 2003 Boy In Static recorded a three-song demo which made its way over seas to The Notwist frontman Markus Acher. At a Notwist show in Boston they met up and Acher personally signed them to his newly founded label Alien Transistor. Their debut album New Born, an album characterized by thunderous synths and lush string ensembles, was released the following year.
